This topic thread is for reviews and information regarding both the Folsom Street and Dore Alley (a.k.a. "Up Your Alley") Fairs held annually in San Francisco.
These fairs are combined in this thread as they are very similar in terms of theme, fetish orientation, and, hosted by the same organization.
The Folsom Street Fair (FSF) is an annual BDSM and leather subculture street fair held in September, that caps San Francisco's "Leather Pride Week", and is deemed to be the largest public fetish fair in the world. The Folsom Street Fair, sometimes simply referred to as "Folsom", takes place on Folsom Street between 8th and 13th Streets, in San Francisco's South of Market district. The event started in 1984 and is California's third-largest single-day, outdoor spectator event. It has grown as a non-profit charity, and local and national non-profits benefit with all donations at the gates going to charity groups as well as numerous fundraising schemes within the festival including games, beverage booths and even spanking for donations to capitalize on the adult-themed exhibitionism.
Dore/Up Your Alley Fair is called by its organizers "Folsom's Dirty Little Brother" fair, and is held in July on Dore Alley between Howard and Folsom, continuing on Folsom from 9th to Juniper and the adjoining block of 10th St. San Francisco, CA. It is considered "dirtier" than Folsom in that some believe it is in fact kinkier than Folsom offering more in the way of whips, canings and things like "puppy play" (don't ask me, I don't know what that is!). But for many of us, it's hard to imagine what could be kinkier than Folsom. Many consider Dore Alley to be a warm-up for the much larger Folsom Street Fair that occurs a couple of months later.
Legality of Nudity:
As it pertains to legality of full nudity, the answer is yes, it's completely legal. Although San Francisco passed an ordinance in 2013 that makes public nudity illegal when conducting ordinary activities, the ordinance specifically states that if a planned event has a City permit, and, if that event expressly indicates the presence of nudity as a "freedom of expression", full complete nudity is perfectly legal, acceptable and very appropriate by anyone attending. And full nudity can be expected to be seen during this entire event with some demonstrations on stage having naked performers with genitals fully on display.
So these back-to-back fairs offer sexual fetishists, nudists and exhibitionists an unparalleled opportunity to experience full public nudity in a highly erotically charged (by intention) environment unlike any other in the world. But homophobes beware, San Francisco is considered the "gay capital" of the Americas, and this event is not only LGTB friendly, but has a strong orientation towards that community. Those going should not be offended by seeing, say, two naked men masturbating or performing fellatio in the middle of the street. And although these type of activities may indeed violate the City ordinance, generally speaking, they have historically been allowed to continue and are not interfered with by either fair goers or law enforcement.

However, the events are not exclusively attended by the local gay male population, although one can expect they will make up a large component of those going. One will also be able to see heterosexual men and women there to simply experience a kinky fair, and, groups of straight female can also be seen in the crowd. The female attendance thus provides male exhibitionists wanting to have a CFNM experience with women a great opportunity, and, because of the theme, intent and prohibition on minors attending, these exhibitionisitic CFNM enthusiasts can enjoy themselves guilt-free as the females are there for the same reasons - to witness and experience kinky eroticism.
The following photos show the crowd at Dore Alley. This photos are very informative for those interested in going in that it shows us the female composition of the crowd as well as allowing us to see the prevalence of male nudity both on stage and in the crowd (click to enlarge):

As way of demonstration as to the nature of kinky activities allowed at these events, ladies are invited to kick the balls of a naked man tied to a streetlight. The ladies seem to enjoy it, and a line eventually forms so that each can have a try - here is a thread posted by one of our members revealing this:
